Objective This study aimed at identifying the acceptance of IUC by teenagers.  Methods This retrospective observational study was conducted by the department of Sexual and Reproductive Health. Totally, 328 adolescents were consulted from January to December 2016. Written informed consent was obtained from participants aged < 1 7 years. Both LNG-IUS and CuT380A were immediately placed after child birth (postplacental/intra-cesarean) or abortion. Results Of the 328 adolescents, 234 (71.3%) accepted the long-acting reversible contraceptives (LARCs), such as implants, CuT380A, LNG-IUS, and medroxyprogesterone acetate. Other contraceptives such as sterilization accounted for 11.8%; therefore, a coverage of 83.1% was achieved. For the LARC group, 179 (76.4%) preferred CuT380A, 14 (5.9%) accepted LNG-IUS, 38 (16.2%) considered subdermal implant, and 3 (1.2%) considered medroxyprogesterone acetate. Moreover, 14.2% participants were aged ≤14 years. The placement methods were as follows: 50 (25.9%) trans-cesarean, 141 (73%) postplacental, and 2 (1.03%) post-abortion Conclusions Mexico ranks first in teenage pregnancies among the member countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. IUC usage in sexually active adolescents faces various barriers. However, IUC is accepted by young women when mainly placed during immediate postpartum, thus preventing another pregnancy. IUC is a good option for Mexican adolescents because these methods are accessible, secure, and highly effective.
